The Fear of Deskilling Is Justified. Banning the Tool Is Not the Answer.

Doctors worked with AI-assisted polyp detection for months. When they then operated without it, they found 20% fewer pre-cancerous growths than before. The Lancet called it deskilling. The fear is justified, but banning the tool is not the answer: aviation faced the same paradox forty years ago and responded with better training, not prohibition. Much of what looks like deskilling is unmanaged reskilling.
